Franklin County Jail Mugshots
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office roster displays booking photos for county jail entries. Mugshots appear as thumbnails on the current inmate roster, on the 48 Hour Release roster, and as larger profile images on individual roster profiles. The public profile inspected during research showed a photo with name, booking number, age, gender, race, address summary, arresting agency, booking date and time, charges, and bond.
The sheriff also publishes a Most Wanted page with images and profiles where available. That page is not a full booking-photo archive. It is a selected wanted-person tool and should not be used as the main place to find Franklin County jail mugshots. For ordinary custody and recent-release photos, use the roster first.
Find Franklin County Mugshots
Franklin County booking photos remain tied to roster status. Current roster photos are visible while the person is listed in current county custody. Release roster photos can still be visible for a short period because Franklin County has a 48 Hour Release view. No official historical mugshot archive or administrative removal policy was located in the Franklin County source set.
- Open the roster chooser and choose Current Inmates if the person may still be held at the Franklin County Detention Center.
- Choose 48 Hour Release if the person may have bonded out, been released, or transferred within the last two days.
- Use Search By Name, then use Name or Date sorting if there are many entries.
- Open View Profile to see the booking photo with the profile fields.
- If no online entry appears, call the jail at 256-332-8425 and ask for current booking, bond, and case-number information.
- For a photo not posted online, submit a narrow public-records request naming the person, booking date, booking number if known, and the exact booking photo or booking sheet sought.
Do not assume that a missing photo means no arrest occurred. Booking may be incomplete, the person may be outside the 48-hour public release window, the case may involve a restricted record, or the person may be in state, federal, immigration, juvenile, or another agency's custody. The custody side is covered through Franklin County inmate records.
Franklin County Photo Record
A booking-photo profile is a jail record, not a court conviction record. The photo shows that a person was booked into custody. The charges beside the photo are booking-stage charge names, and the roster note warns that charges and bail amounts may change after court appearances.

Franklin County Mugshot Law
Alabama law supports public access to core county jail records, but it does not mean every image, case file, or personal detail is posted online forever. Franklin County's roster practice places booking photos on current and 48-hour release records. Alabama public-records law and the sheriff jail-book statute explain why jail intake information is public, while juvenile confidentiality, sealed or expunged records, security issues, and other legal limits can restrict release.

Code of Alabama section 36-22-8 requires sheriffs to keep a public jail book describing each prisoner received into county jail, including name, age, sex, charge, commitment, and release details.
Code of Alabama section 36-12-40 gives Alabama residents a general right to inspect and copy public records, subject to exceptions.
Code of Alabama section 15-27-9 materials in ALEA's expungement kit identify booking or arrest photographs among records affected by an expungement order.
A booking photo should be read with care. It means a person was booked. It does not show guilt, case outcome, later dismissal, acquittal, plea, sentence, expungement, or whether a bond amount changed after a court appearance.
Public and Not Public
The public roster gives useful jail information, but it is only a slice of the record. The inspected Franklin County profile did not show date of birth, housing unit, court date, warrant number, statute code, per-charge bond, medical status, mental-health information, classification, or full court documents. It also did not function as a certified criminal-history report.
What is and is not public: Current and 48-hour Franklin County roster photos are public on the sheriff site when listed. Older booking photos, juvenile records, sealed or expunged matters, security-sensitive details, and medical or classification records may be unavailable online or restricted by law.
Request Franklin County Photos
When a booking photo is not online, the cleanest request is narrow and factual. Ask the Franklin County Sheriff's Office or records custodian for a specific booking photo or booking sheet. Include the person's full name, booking date, booking number if known, arresting agency if known, and the type of record needed. Broad wording such as all records about a person can slow the request or invite limits that do not apply to a single booking photo.
The Alabama Attorney General's open-records form is not Franklin County-specific, but it shows the state-level habit of asking for clear identifying information, keywords when needed, and a signature. For incident reports, the Franklin County FAQ is more specific: the sheriff says an incident report may be picked up by the person who had the report made, with proper photo ID. Court records and certified case outcomes should go through the Franklin County Circuit Clerk or Alabama court channels, not through a mugshot request.
For legal use, ask the source office what qualifies as an official copy. Saving a web image from the roster may be enough for personal reference, but it is not the same as a certified jail record or a court-certified file.
Mugshot Removal and Expungement
No official Franklin County process was located for a simple administrative request to remove a mugshot from the sheriff roster after a case ends. The official route found in Alabama source material is expungement through the courts when the case qualifies. ALEA states that Alabama courts grant expungements, not ALEA, and that a certified ALEA criminal-history record is required before filing.
ALEA's expungement kit says records covered by expungement can include arrest records, booking or arrest photographs, index references, and other arrest or charge data. The Alabama AOC provides the CR-65 Petition for Expungement of Records. If an expungement order is granted, the booking or arrest photo may be part of the official records addressed by that order. If there is no order, Franklin County roster display is governed by the sheriff's public roster practices and Alabama public-records law.
Expungement is different from asking a private site to hide a copy. Commercial mugshot sites are not reliable official sources for Franklin County jail mugshots, and they are not needed to find the county's public roster. Use official court, ALEA, and sheriff channels for records access and records clearing. For the court side of dismissal, sealing, or expungement, use the court-records pathway after a jail arrest.
Federal and ICE Photos
Federal and immigration locators do not work like the Franklin County jail roster. The Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator is a custody search for federal inmates, not a county-style mugshot gallery. The BOP system is strongest after a person is in BOP custody, often after sentencing or designation. A federal pretrial defendant may not appear there yet.
The ICE Online Detainee Locator System also does not publish public mugshots. It is a detainee-location tool that searches by A-number and country of birth or exact biographic information. A person may pass briefly through a county jail on a federal or immigration matter without the Franklin County facility becoming a federal prison or ICE detention center. The research file found no BOP facility and no ICE detention facility in Franklin County.
State-prison lookup is separate too. The Alabama Department of Corrections inmate search is for currently incarcerated state prisoners. A person who began with a Franklin County booking can later move to ADOC after sentencing, at which point the county roster is no longer the main custody lookup.
Note: A roster photo is a county jail booking image. State, federal, and immigration searches answer different custody questions and may not show a photo at all.
